Keshavan Ramamurthy

A versatile percussionist from a four-generation musical family, known for rhythmic depth and dance collaboration.

Thanjavur Ramamurthy Kesavan is a renowned percussionist and Nattuvangam artist in the field of performing arts. He comes from an illustrious lineage and belongs to a family dedicated to music for four generations.

Kesavan began learning Mrudangam at the age of six. By the age of ten, he was accompanying his father, Ramamurthy Bhagavathar, a Harikatha exponent. He also accompanied the renowned spiritual guru Thirumuruga Kirupanandha Variyar.

Over the years, Kesavan has become an expert in several percussion instruments including Thavil, Kanjeera, Pakhawaj, and Ghatam. His recognition as a Mrudangam and Nattuvangam artist comes from deep technical command, musical instinct, and humility in collaboration.

He is an empanelled artist of ICCR and a B High graded artist in All India Radio and Doordarshan. Kesavan has trained and promoted many students, conducted Mrudangam arangetrams, and composed new Alarippu, Pushpanjali, Jatiswaram, Tillana, and many varieties of jathis in different talams for classical dance productions.
